P202A – How to fix VW AdBlue heater (FULL VIDEO) (Reductant Tank Heater Control Circuit)

I got this engine management fault code P202A, which means „Reductant Tank Heater Control Circuit / Open”. So there is a problem with with the heater for AdBlue fluid.

This is the video how I fixed it and solved the problem.

Repair kit (replacement parts) – you can get them from your local dealership or from eBay. Please, check the price from dealership, because it can be not too different to those on eBay. Please check compatibility with your car (especially if it’s not VW Sharan/SEAT Alhambra). Anyway, here is the link to eBay search results that will give you part number and few choices at a good price:

That jack adaptor I’ve used is pretty handy tool to have in your garage. Recommend 🙂 Here’s the link to eBay search results, that gives you lots of choices at a good price:

  1. Lifesaver! I just got a quote for replacing my Sharan 2012 Adblue heater, 1200 euros (12 000 NOK). No effing way. So I'll watch your video a couple of times and do it myself.

  2. Hello! Thank you for your video. I need to ask something. After you replace this heater system with a new one, as you did. Does it need to be set up or programmed with a VCDS software? Or is it just a physical replacement with no need of software programming? Waiting for your reply when possible. Thanks

  3. Really detailed video, I am taking this to my mechanic, hopefully it will save me some money. I have the "PB205B Reductant tank temperature sensor signal faulty" error on my 2.0 Sharan. But the thing is, it is not constant. I first received the error last winter (the mechanic used the computer to delete it), then I received the error again last Friday. I managed to find online someone that actually replaced the temperature sensor DIY https://www.myturbodiesel.com/threads/def-p205b-temp-sensor-diy-fix.28155/. Du you think this is possible? or it will last? I am asking because its a huge difference between 300euro and 10 euro 🙂

  4. I've got a P202A error also, however my adblue fluid level was low too. The bottle and spanner have been flashing so I topped it up fully however the spanner and bottle is still flashing and CEL is on. Are these systems linked?? Are you anywhere near Manchester?? Thanks

  5. Realy good jib, and I used your Video to change the heater on my Sharan also.
But anyway I have a foulty on Display with Adblue rest 0km
    Is there a reset necessary???

  6. Hello, I have Seat Alhambra 2014 2.0 TDI 103kw, and PC says codes P203B and P205B. Do you think that by changing heating system it will erase both errors?
I think that Sharan and Alhambra are almost the same cars 🙂 thanks for answer and for great instructional video.
